If you bend it in how short is it? I’m the farthest thing from an expert but I’m just curious. Have you tried to get in under the hammer? Loosen the screw holding the spring and rotate and bend it under? I have a sneaking suspicion that’s the right spring.

I wonder if another Colt (Pocket?) pistol uses a shorter spring and that was sent to you. Like I said, I can write a book on what I don’t know. I can’t imagine dimensional tolerances being that far off from ASM?

They said that my ASM was odd since it had the square trigger guard...and one person there thought someone put on an ASM barrel onto another brand frame ???? But the serial numbers match the frame, barrel, and back strap...the guy also said anyone can stamp anything

I was able to talk to the manager I think and they said their Dragoon spring was longer than the one I got today. So I got that one to try its supposed to ship out tomorrow. I can always trim it down...but way more careful this time for sure.

I tried the Wolff springs for the Uberti Regulator and the SAA and one would kind of fit but not really. I'm sad the one for the 1851 ASM Navy wouldn't work.

I’m glad they are hopefully going to resolve it for you. I think you have a great gun there. Worth the trouble in my opinion. If you ever get tired of it I know someone that would take it in. 😀

Bwiggins1985, interesting thread. I’m sitting on the edge of my seat. Lol can’t wait to hear the latest when you get the new spring. We’re cheering you on here👍👍

Ok so I got two springs In today. The dragoon spring today and it was way too stiff and long… 😂 I also got the spring from vti gun parts. It was an ASM also… but it’s longer than the other ASM spring from deer creek. See the difference in the same spring. The vti spring is longer behind the deer creek spring.

That’s interesting that VTI even had ASM parts? I thought those ASM parts were hard to find. It looks like whatever spring you used seats nicely. :):)

They are hard to find and when they do, they sell them. I suspect some are old stock "after market" parts but hey, if it might work, why not?

As far as that main spring in the Navy (above) it looks like it may contact the T.G material at full **** (somewhere along the belly of the spring). I would remove any of the brass t.g. that does make contact.
You can take material off of the sides of the spring to lighten it some. In the future, if it breaks, it may be easier to get a current Pietta or Uberti spring to use. Get a brass screw the same as the main spring screw or a brass rod to fill in the drilled out main spring screw hole and solder it in place. Drill and tap a new hole for a new screw in the correct position that will allow you to use new Pietta / Uberti spring.

I’m in the round rock area of Austin. I found it randomly at the new gun shop I used for a transfer… it was just sitting on the back shelf. I kind of took over the guys work bench in the back of the shop and tore it down to clean all the gunk out to get it to move decent. He was like you’re just gonna clean our guns for us… I was like yea and I’m gonna buy this one lol.

Not muzzle loader related but they got a bunch of Winchester 94s from someone… I’m thinking about one really hard lol like the Marlins better though.
I have a 1910 Winchester 94 and it shoots amazingly well! At 100yards Micky Mouse Ears in one hole.

I have the same ASM sqaure back with identical hidden markings ( sold as the Hartford model sold through EMF. I ordered it in 89 and have taken a lot of small game with it years ago. That trigger guard is pretty tiny but have always loved the looks of the square back models 2nd model produced in 1851, ist model was produced in 1850.
