I was able to get back to the range today with my Pietta 1851 Colt Navy. This was my second time shooting it.

Before shooting I had rubbed the cylinder pin down with Bore Butter.

I was able to get off 36 rounds without ever having to clean the gun. Action worked fine throughout.

I used 17 grains of FFFG with two Ox-Yoke Wads for the last 12 shots (see target below).

For the first 12 shots I used 17 grains of FFFG with 20 grains of corn meal.

The double wads worked best.

For all the shots I decided to swab a little bore butter over each ball. I think that helped out a lot with keeping the gun from gumming up.

My last six shots shot a decent group (again, see target below). I tried to aim at the same point (slight below center) but this is only my second time shooting a pistol and it was darn hard to keep my extended arm steady.

Thanks for all the tips, they really helped.

All shots were fired at 25 yards off hand.

I like to do the same with smearing bore butter over each ball with a Q-tip, not gobs of it but just a little. Try using a rest and experimenting with your powder charges a little until you get the desired accuracy you want. keep records of your powder charges so that six months from now you'll remember what you were loading.
