Well, I have customized the Cold Steel and Condor pipe hammer pole hawk so I thought why not do the Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) tomahawk as well. As you can see by the photos it does not have the set screw. It is composed of 1055 carbon steel the same as the Cold Steel hawks. Thankfully it doesn't have the name stamped deeply into the bit face as the Condors do. These are photos of a work in progress. I still have a ways to go yet.

Moderators, I realize I may have posted this in the wrong location. If you can move it please do or delete it if you need to.

My apologies.

Thanks.

To me, that is simply beautiful. Did you inlay a piece of silver near the back end, or is it just the light ?

You made that into a fine looking hawk head. The curly maple will look nice but will not hold up to actual use.

Riflman 1776, I realize you are correct. Tempered Hickory is probably the best. It has a long standing reputation. For my purposes since I do them for my personal collection I have others with Hickory hafts I use more often for the chores I use them for. My hammer pole customized hawks are not designed for throwing although as I have stated I suppose you could if you wanted to. If I were to use a hawk for throwing it would be a simple design with just an eye and bit like most everyone uses and a common simple hickory haft.

Rifleman 1776, I found a curly Hickory haft I have purchased. Boy they sure do like them, but it is a nice long haft that I believe I will be able to fit to this hawk head nicely. Will post a photo when I get it done.

I’ve got to tell you Shiloh, I’ve been waiting to see the finished product for what seemed like a really long time. I would check the Forum several times, every day. Tonight, I sat down, opened the Forum, and Dayummmm ! That is beautiful ! Beautiful wood, beautiful transformation of the head. The combination is simply.... WOW ! :thumb::thumb::thumb:

DOUBLEDEUC, Thank you for the kind remarks. I had it done a week ago but other events have prevented me from posting any photos of the finished hawk until now. I am trying to do a TOTW gun kit that has been eating my lunch. I really have to take my hat off to guys who do the more difficult kits. My equilibrium problem really compounds my patience with intricate work.
