What is the most finish-friendly way to clean the handgrip?

I tend to avoid getting it dirty because it seems like my rag always comes out red at the end, but it's getting time again im afraid.

What kind of stain do they use, and what solvents are safe with it? It's a beautiful grip.

That red on your hand is some thing I get just handling a Peitta revolver. The finish isn’t sealed very well or my hands are caustic! I’d remove them and use a more durable finish on it. Tru Oil is easy to use.

I just give the grips a wipe down with whatever oil I use on the revolver at the end of a cleaning session. I only have one Pietta revolver, but my grips don't give me that problem of the color coming off on my rag. However my Pietta grips do look pretty dull and cheap compared to my Uberti Walker's grips. I'd do as Phil Coffins says and put a new coat of finish on them. Good luck -Justin

Having handled or owned most every factory B.P. small arm made in the last 40 years I have yet to be impressed. If I could buy them with no finish I would be more impressed. Sand and shape properly. Stain to taste. Oil based finish is easy to maintain...c

If one thinks Pietta grips are "red", I find that Uberti grips are much more so.

I use one coat of BC Tru-Oil and let it cure/harden for 4-5 days. I then use #0000 steel wool all over the wood to remove any finish imperfections. I then use an old piece of denim to bring it to a satin luster.

It has worked well for me for years.

Regards,

Jim
