The First Model Bess i bought arrived today and it is a lot nicer than i was expecting. I have heard so much negative about the India made Bess's that i wasn't sure what to expect. This one is really not bad at all. Has a pretty nice piece of wood with decent figure in it. The wood to metal fit, although not perfect, is quite good. The trigger isn't bad either with an estimated pull weight of 4-5 lbs. There is a lot of slop in the trigger, but once you take up the slack it isn't bad at all. Lock functions well and throws good sparks. This is one from Middelsex Village Traders. I was going to shorten it to reduce the weight, but after it got here decided that it is ok just like it is. The only thing i will do is to brown the lock and barrel to get rid of all that Brite metal. Then work up a good turkey hunting load. Let the games begin.

Almost bought one of their guns. When does spring turkey start in Oregon?

Normally I steer away from cheap guns but I plunged for the blunderbuss from middlesex. afterall not too many blunderbuss complete guns to be had. my opinion? darn good for the small change. Im not gonna knock em actually I think the value is very good. pc? oh posh if your not shooting a origional regardless of what you paid its not pc. I have $3,000.00 guns and $200.00 guns
personally my cheap ones get the most use. go figgure. so far im pleased let you know if it falls apart or kills me in the future :rotf:
so far so good! :blah: Atleast its a muzzleloader and not one of those laser guided bullet hoses from the army navy store :blah:

Spring turkey season start April 15. The fall season just ended Dec 31. One thing we have in abundance around here is turkeys. And Rain.

Now there's a good idea. Lets buy us a nice big island, start our own country, declare war on the U.S. surrender after 1 hour and get financial aide from now on.

i have an mvt-brass bbl blundre buss and i can only say good things about but like you the lock is a bit bright let me know how the brown does on the high polish ---------tom

Only complaint i have is the front sight is soldered on a bit to the left instead of in the center of the barrel. But that is easy enough to fix.

Yeah, you don't want your bayonet on crooked when you're trying to spit a turkey on it! :haha:

Don't gots no bayonet. But barrel is plenty long enough to roast 'em on without it.

What kind of Yeti hunter ain't got no bayonet?

Hi sir!
I have me a india made 1st mod bess..And after my clean up she is AWESOME shoots straight, and is rugged. The lock is so good It would make fire with a old boot in it!!

If you ever choose to refinish her try a few coats of minwax "special walnut" then some lynseed oil/varsol in 50 50 mixture.

I really cannot say enough good things about my bess.

Enjoy yours she will never fail you.

Minwax's "Special Walnut" is a good product that we've used in the antique furniture trade for years. It's actually a combo of their Walnut & Golden Oak stains and is dark without covering the grain. Have used it for gunstocks for years as well.
