purchased, anaustin and halleck mountain rifle, thats like brand new, but need the owners manual. any one know where i might be able to find one

From what I remember, A&H went out of business, but Traditions picked up the Mountain rifle. I had one in flint for a while. Nice rifle, but I got a custom, and that one went. I don't think mine ever came with an owner's manual, but I got it through a broker, so that may have gone by the wayside. what did you need to know, or were you just looking for a manual to keep everything complete?

Deer Creek bought out a lot of the A&H parts when they went under, same for CVA. I don't know if they would have an owners manual though. The manuals typically don't have a lot of technical information specific to the rifle any way. Usually just general muzzleloading information which you can get plenty of right here.

i know all the trigger systems and locks are basiclly the same. just would like to have the manual, to fall back on as far as screw adjustments an settings , should i have a problems with it.thanks for the replys

Austin and Halleck went out of business in 2006?? and their website is long gone.

You can try the wayback machine:

Wayback for Austin and Halleck website

You're going to have to check out each link and then hope you get lucky and find the manual. Depends on how bad you want it.

FWIW, I worked on a A&H made near the end of their existance, unfired, still in the foam box, but I don't recall seeing any documentation. Purchased from a broker, not A&H, as they had already ceased to operate. It was a percussion 54 cal Hawken-like rifle with a fast twist barrel, and a drum & nipple system.

Based on my experience, I'd urge you to carefully check out the piece prior to firing it. The new owner was cleaning the oil from the bore prior to firing it, and got the cleaning patch stuck in the breach and asked me to get the patch out.

The patch was stuck because the drum was about 0.20" too long and protruded into the bore. I started to remove the drum, and found it was only finger tight, the threads (metric of course) in both the barrel and the drum were badly stripped. I can only speculate if the drum would have been blown out or not, but the workmanship was somewhere between inept and outright dangerous. Maybe as A&H was ending their operations, they threw together whatever they had on hand to get stuff out the door.

I retapped the barrel to a larger US size, and made a new drum, fitted it tight. Owner has fired it and is pleased, but what a disaster it could have been.

I bought one back in the day. Nice shooting flintlock for what I paid for it. The manual that came with it was only a few pages long. Not worth much. Better to read the info in this forum on how to shoot and maintain. Bill

Agreed. i also owned one of their mt. rifles in flint. Great gun and very accurate, but it was made in Weston, MO. When they moved to Utah is when QC issues started to come up. Where they are made is stamped on the top barrel flat.
hope you got a good one!
Dirk

I bought one new from Dixie it did not come with a manual. A good shooting rifle. Killed 3 deer with it. Later replaced it with a TMV as my hunting rifle. I loaned it to a friend who has hunted with it for the last few years.
