I am curious what state or Metro Region you live in, and is REAL BLACK POWDER available for sale where you reside, or are you forced to buy a case and have it shipped in via UPS.

I am in the Phoenix Metro Area, and on LAST CHECK there was NO LOCAL RETAIL SOURCE for the Real Stuff.

Due the NML** Western Shoot a guy from Arkansas come to town, and has the real stuff for sale...but the case or indivudual pound....
:)

Fortunately there is a distributor within an hour and a half of me here in NC...As I work for myself, when I need some I take a few hours off and go get a few pounds, fortunately there's a pretty good BBQ joint on the way...

A few carry Goex. Closest is about 30 miles away, but on a route I can take to either my deer camp or black powder range. graybeard

I'm lucky. The Cabela's store here in Mitchell, SD carries Goex, but at a premium price.

I'm fortunate that I have a great little traditional muzzleloading store about 55 minutes away (Kenockee Tradin' Post ...shameless plug), that carries real black powder. I make the trip a few times a year and buy almost all my muzzleloading supplies from them (flints, caps, lead for casting, ect). Last time I was there, I bought a flint and steel set, and the time before that I bought a voyager's style stocking cap....wore that last muzzleloading season (although it didn't bring me much luck!)

I'm told that the local Gander Mountain carries black powder as well, but I haven't tried to purchase any there yet.

16...Yep you are lucky, we had one store like that in Greensboro maybe 20 years ago but the owner was a butt, they didn't make it...Gander Mt in Greensboro doesn't carry Goex, so every trip, I stop in and ask if they carry real black powder, they try to sell me the subs and I have to re-educate the new kid again...Guess I can be a butt too...

Haven't seen real bp in OKC in a couple of years. I split a case with a local shooter last year. Should have enough for a while.

It's available in Anchorage and Two Rivers, but if you're in the Alaska bush, you're thoroughly scrawed. Transporting is a real no-no on state ferries or passenger aircraft, and they aren't kidding.

Much as I'd like genetic purity and real black powder, I'm happy with subs as an alternative to not shooting at all.

The Goex distributor for you area seems to be Coonies Explosives and Black Powder, Inc., at Hobbs, N. Mexico. Phone: 1-800-713-6421, or email:

You can find these distributors and contact information by simply going to the member's resources at the top of the index page to this forum, or simply google " Goex ". Contact them, and I bet they can tell where the nearest retailor is located. If they won't sell you part of a case, then contact Powder, Inc. or Graf & sons, that will fill an order as small as 5 lbs. You wont save as much money as you would buying a case, but you will get what you want, in the quantity that you want, delivered to your door.

You might also contact Keith L. Paul, in Phoenix, who is a NMLRA Field Representative. I bet he knows where you can find real black powder near you, or can direct you to a club where other members will be happy to join you in placing an order for a full case or two of powder so you can all save the bucks.

Yes there is a local shop that carries Goex here in Green Bay .
Our local club sells it to members or you can allways take some as a prize at our monthly shoots .
Haven't bought a can in over 7 yrs. (lucky shooter)

Like akapennypincher, I live in Phoenix and buy my powder at the NMLRA Western National.
Locally, Thunderbird Cartridge Co. (602-237-3823) was stocking real black powder the last time I called them.
They ask that a buyer call ahead so they can get the powder out of the special storage area.

zonie :)

Here in ontario If you find it you buy as much as you can afford, As it may not be available at later dates.

I have yet to find any in SC, so mail ordering is the only way to go. The last of my GO I have is from two places, when I was living in Colorado I was getting it from Catch La pouder rifle works,in Fort Collins, I sure miss those guys, I here there out of business now. I also got some from a small shop in Pepperell, Massachusetts when I lived in New Hampshire, Sorry I can't remember there name.

For the most part my area of South Carolina is a sad place for a Traditional Muzzleloader to live, there are "NO" Blackpowder shops around.

Gander Mt in Kingston,NY has got permits and kissed everyones A from the governors office to the local bag lady, now they are just waiting for the fire marshall to tell them where they can put the storage case.weird state, even the dept. of labor has a say about BP.

I'm driving 25 minutes to a gun store. There i can get any powder i want. The next one is 50 miles away. But there i can get anything i want. From modern .500 Jeffery and .505 Gibbs 'Take-down' rifles for water buffalo hunting to all the muzzleloader stuff.
:hatsoff:

I'm in the northern half of NJ and I have three shops within a 1/2 hours drive that I can get Goex from and Dixon's is a little over an hours drive and where i stock up on Swiss BP. I've got two shops in NJ about an hour south that I can get Goex from as well.
