My pop did civil war re-enactment for years and when I got into shooting/hunting, I did some live firing and hunting with his muskets. I just ordered a Pedersoli shotgun and am ordering the supplies to get started. I can’t wait.

I got a quail with a muzzleloader last week too! I'll try to post picture

where in AZ are you?

Cave Creek, I’ve been hunting in the Tonto National Forest with my Benelli Supernova. I’m trying to become a successful hunter before I get a hunting dog. I had a Brittany but wasn’t as successful as I’d like to have been with her. She’s gone now, but I’d like to have better skills before I try again. I’ve been out every week on average. I’m finding quail hunting without a dog to be quite difficult.

Nice. I haven't hunted in several years, but I did most of my past hunting in Tonto (and plan to start doing so again at some point). I remember years ago going target shooting/plinking either off Dynamite Rd. or up off Bartlett Dam Rd. Most of those areas have been closed to such activity for years, though. Now my target/plinking spots are couple a tucked away locations closer to Horseshoe or off Beeline near Four Peaks (this one is time dependent, as the area is awash in 4 wheelers and dirt bikes much of the time, particularly weekends, and while still legal to do so if done safely, I don't want to freak out the off roaders with gunshots and potentially bring about more closures). :thumb:

I don’t have to go far to find a covey near me. Currently using a Remington 870 youth 20 ga. I’ve been wanting a muzzleloader shotgun. Maybe this will be the year.

Good luck. I'd love to have opportunities for wild quail. I have two English setters and they're very good, though one of them is getting too elderly to hunt. I very well may plan a quail trip somewhere in the next year or two because it's one of my bucket list trips.

PonderosaMan, that quail in the photo above was just off 7 springs road. The Black Powder group at Rio Salado Sportsmans Club (Usury pass) includes a few shotgunners, I need to go meet them and shoot clays there some time soon. I had a ML shotgun decades ago and about once every quail season I regret having sold it, so I just got this new one a few weeks ago.

Looks like a scaled quail? I did a little scouting up there by Seven Springs Rd. but didn’t see much where I looked. I’m very pleased with the place I frequent. It’s just so difficult to find them when they are wary. Usury is awesome. Very chill, great presentations.

I suggest continuing discussions about things other than meeting and greeting people on the forum to areas that are more suited to them.
This area is for introductions and questions about the areas people live in.

Sorry. For future reference, where would be the best place to discuss a specific area? The regional section? Or is that more for organized activities/meet-ups in a given area? I haven't really visited that section much, so I'm not sure.
