Bad day of hunting w buddy

I forgot to pinch the musket cap out of round for better grip on the nipple and I didn't notice it tipped off when I took a 30 yd shot at doe.

At least, I didn't flinch, perfect sight picture afterwards! Oh well, better day hunting w a buddy (even if he had an unmentionable) than being at work!!

that stinks but. you should not have to pinch them, file nipple to fit caps you use or replace it with a good nipple.

Are you using a regular nipple for a #11 cap?

Had a gun years ago with a larger nipple for musket caps and didn't have to pinch them.

I don't know why people are so resistant to having a selection of nipples to fit various sizes of caps. That is the main reason we see cap locks fail to fire.

I sat all evening the other day with an unloaded gun, it wasn't the flintlock that I usually use and keep loaded. Nothing showed up and I sure felt stupid as I was packing my stuff to get down from my tree stand and realized this.

I've spent days in the deer stand with a loaded gun, but didn't even attempt to shoot for various reasons. Still worth it and a couple of great days out in the woods.

Yep been there too. Had a nice 15 inch ( ? ) antelope standing 100 yards away with a modern gun. Click..! Factory ammo dead primer. I don't even want to talk about my # 11 cap issues...lol

I'm using REAL musket caps, not percussion caps
