what is that possibles bag that nathaniel and uncas wore it looks like it folds over a blanket and tou open it at camp and on both sides it has pockets. how often were they really used and i think i might make one any info would help :huh:

That was the "New Invented Knapsack of 1776". That really IS what it was called.

It's sort of a cross between a tump line and knapsack. The blanket roll up inside and it has a strap like a tumpline, but once you unbuckle it.....there are pockets inside like a British knapsack.

Not a bad set up, but it was invented 20 years too late for Hawkeye to have had one.
