Anyone have a pattern for a ball bag? I am looking to make one for a .672 ball and one for a .451 ball? Also, What do you guys use to sew your together?

Man, you sure have a lot of projects going on!..

Ball bags are pretty straight forward...Just draw the type you want out of paper, allow for seam and hole size for ball size, then draw around pattern on leather, sew together with heavy linen thread, sinew or waxed thread.

Who are you telling!?!?! My wife is fed up with me! :haha: I have become so engrossed in muzzleloading since being introduced to it by a friend of mine, it has taken over!

I figured the ball bags were pretty simple. I just only have a limited amount of leather right now, and didn't want to mess up. Thanks for your input Horner. Also thank you for the link the horners bench. I have thoroughly enjoyed taking a look at the topics

I use a soft leather sewed with waxed linen thread and a leather "drawstring " to close. Just get a piece of clolth and lay out a pattern and practice of the cloth. :idunno: Get the wife a small caliber light rifle like the T.C. cherokee or seneca and then she will be right with you! :idunno:

Here's a nice pattern..

Good evening folks, and thank you for a very timely posting Makeumsmoke, I was just thinking about making some shot & ball pouches.

Dixie Gun Works used to sell a wood funnel with a wood stopper that you sewed the leather around. I think they only cost a buck or two. And- I'm not sure it is PC- if fact I've never seen an original- but if you do a flat bottom with tapered sides- and a drawing type top- you can stand the bag up on a bench and open the top without any balls rolling out.

I can remember them selling for about $.75. I have used a couple of them for making ball bags and have turned a couple on a lathe myself (first and only wood lathe project). It only takes a short time to make a set and you probably could do it using a drill as a lathe. Drill a pilot hole for a bolt to chuck in the drill and shape the outside using files and sandpaper then drill it to size.
