("neck" secured? Was the leather wetted and when dry, the neck is then secured?)
Yes the neck was attached when the leather was still damp and stitched to secure ,( What is the cordage )just some old bowstring.

I really like your method of securing the top. I have used something very similar for a flint wallet, but it works well for the ball bag.

I am not seeing any added material to support the neck. Is it simply wet formed and left to support itself?

Interesting. I have used copper tubing in such projects.

I have a newbie question, how do you shape the leather so it holds the round shape of the ball bag? These look really neat and I'd love to build one.
 
Lay out a pattern for the bag. Cut out and see together, wet it down so it's soaked, then fill it with sand or aquriam gravel or bird shot slow to dry. Give it a couple of days to dry, don't rush it. Empty it and you have that shape. If working with a veggie tanned leather you can paint the outside with wax, it will soak in and stiffen it. Working with rawhide it will dry very hard and stiff.
