That would explain why it is made from metal. While surfing Youtube I saw a matchbox on a wall next to a woodstove that closely resembled it only it appeared to be made of ceramic.

The interesting thing here is that it was;
found,, in the bottom of a box with some old late 19th century shotgun reloading tools
That doesn't mean it's for gun stuff, :idunno:
Could be the owner of said box of stuff, just found it someplace and might have given thought to using it for some gun stuff.

Hi Bill! Coming in on this Thread a little late. :haha:
As mentioned above, I believe this is Tibetan, or somewhere around that Region. The decoration looks similar to other Tibetan items I've seen. My guess is it was made to carry fire making supplies, as mentioned above. If it's actually made of "tin", it's probably not that old. In any case, I'll check my reference library this weekend and report back. :haha:
It's not Ottoman. Below, is a pic of two original Ottoman/Turk brass containers used to carry pre-made combustible bullets. These were always made of brass or silver with the same style belt loop on the back. The Turks and Greeks used these for some 200 years virtually unchanged.
Still, the Tibetan pouch is a real interesting item you seldom see. I'll let ya'll know what else I find this weekend. Thanks for Posting. Rick. :hatsoff:

Well, I looked through my library. Can't find any reference to this. But I remember seeing one of these at the Baltimore Show a 2-3 years ago. It was made of all brass with the same shape and similar decoration. In any case, I do believe it is Southeast Asian. And used to carry fire making supplies per the Link above provided by Sean.
Thanks again for Posting an interesting item. Rick.

looks like a worm box to me not very usefull to dip into and it would be noisey to carry ball in, my 2 cents

I had a box just like that when I was a kid. I don't know anything about it or where it's at now, but I used to fill it with worms when I went fishing at the river.

Thanks for your guys time and input.
By its shape it does look like a worm/bait container.
The many responses I get, lean first towards a cartridge/ball pouch and secondly a fire making accouterments pouch.
Geographically people feel it may come from Iran to Tibet. Could this have been possibly a trade item in its day?
I would like to know one day exactly what it is.
