Yep, I agree with you. I'm retired and am always looking for things to do so spending the time it takes to weigh and sort my rifle balls is just "havin' fun" for me.

True. It's part of the process for me and like you i enjoy it. My life is not going to change because i spent 10 minutes sorting balls

.....or mixing lubes, or cutting patches, or making flints, or most anything that entails "tinkering" with guns (BP, of course) .
It's given me a whole new (time-consuming) interest in my retirement  .

These past couple of months, it has been so hot that going to the range was just not a pleasure for me. So, to satisfy my need to do something with my guns, I have weighed and sorted all of my rifle balls of each caliber, made patches for each caliber, made cleaning patches, cleaned out my range box, swabbed the bores and wiped down the outside of every one of my guns and waxed their stocks with Renaissance wax. Then I have sat in my home office and aimed out the window at my neighbors mail box flag. I have shot that thing off a jillion times dry firing. Of course I have a piece of plastic tubing on my nipple and a wooden "flint" in all of my flintlocks. I find ways to fill my spare hours doing gun related stuff. It ain't work, it's fun. I'm retired.....every day is Saturday. :haha:
