The more I think about this I keep coming back to the fact that Ballistol is a water soluble oil, as in it mixes with water and does not separate. I just can't see this as a oil you could swab the bore with and store the gun for long periods of time. Even humidity should be able to effect this oil over time.

WD40 displaces water and thats a lot different than this stuff. Not that I'm saying WD40 is the answer, but I think I'd use that before Ballistol for storage of more than a few days.
