Several articles refer in the archieves to cutting Ballistol with water to use as a lube/cleaner. The mixes vary from 50/50 to 1 in 3, 1 in 8 etc. Apart from making it go further anybody any opinions about the different concentrations/applications in use for a) patch ball lube. b) bore cleaner either between shots or as a final clean at the end of shooting.

 I shoot greenmtnbarrels and for all my target work I shoot a five to one to six to one water ballistol mix. I shoot a 30thousands patch or a 28 thousands patch with a 10 thousands undersize ball. At fifty yrds I get half to three quarter inch groups at 100 yrd about inche and half. All five shot groups. I use breakfree as my lubercating oil after my guns have been thourly!! scrubbed clean.. This is just a basic quick note.
There are other web sights that give you all kinds of ballistol recipts.
Your patches will dry out if left in the air for to long. week or so. :hatsoff:
Here is a web sight you need !!! to read it will all come together http://www.blackpowderrifleaccuracy.com/

Thanks for that. Strangely it was that site and a few thoughts over the past 2 weeks that led me to this question.

IMHO you should purchase Dutch's system (from the above web site) The ratio of oil to water depends on what your rifle likes. It is explained in greater detail in Dutch's system. Good luck.

My understanding is that Ballistol is simply mineral oil with a carrier. Not sure why it would aid cleaning--but the water part does. Mineral oil has been used for patch lube and it might be cheaper to simply buy mineral oil in your grocery/pharmacy--I have not done a price comparison.

that's been my understanding also, that it's mineral oil. Some folks think it's some kind of majic potion but if you want it to disolve BP put some water in it.
