Recently picked up a Pedersoli 20GA side by side with choked barrels .580(I think turkey load?) and .605(I think light modified). I think it is chrome lined as well.

I mainly plan to use this for hunting rabbit, squirrels, dove, and turkey using #7.5 for dove and #5 everything else.

Though I’d love to be able to also shoot the occasional slug out of it for larger game like deer.

I bought some .570 balls, OO buck and #3 buckshot for larger game.

Can I shoot balls out of both or one of these barrels?

Thanks!

You maybe better off running a buck-n-ball combination in the turkey choked barrel, or just buckshot if its legal where u are. But 3 45 round balls would do job nicely.

I had remarkably good luck with round balls in my Pedersoli 20 ga. flintlock sbs. Groups with round balls were close to point of aim and each barrel kept three shots within two inches of each other at 25. I found the more open barrel easy to load with .600 round balls, but the choked barrel was a struggle to get the ball loaded. I plan to use .600 round balls in one barrel and .580 round balls in the other. More experimenting to do!

what are your thoughts on a light modified/modified choke?
Worth a try. In my experience getting good round ball groups from a smoothbore with just a front sight is tricky. I know there are shooters who do much better than I do. The best round ball smoothbore shooters use small bore guns, 24 and 28 gauge. In my hands my own 20 and 14 gauge smoothbores are 40-50 yard deer guns, no better. Yes there are days I can hit 10” gongs at 100 yards. And there are days when I miss a fair number at 75 yards.

Oh that’s fine. I’m not expecting 100 yards with it. 40-50 yard patterns and I’ll be happy!

Thanks for your input!
