Been wanting a “trade pistol” for quite sometime. They are pretty scarce around here and do not come up for sale very often. I Just picked this up…..close enough for me 👍
Barnett, bore mics at .571 ! Functions as it should and I’m sure all original, including the ram rod. Pretty happy with it 😎

Were the trigger guards that big on all of the trade pistols? Or just one’s going to a cold climate, where people wore gloves?

The ones I’ve seen certainly do….. I think it had more to do with style at the time ? But there obviously was a preference for big guards on the “trade muskets “ I guess pistols followed the trend ? 🤔
I’ve got a small Bond muff pistol of sorts that has a very similar large guard as well 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe folks just had fatter fingers 🤣

Very nice pistol I hope it checks out to be a great shooter for you. Nice Score
Judging from your photos showing a lock featuring a roller-frizzen, sliding safety & possibly hook breach & belt hook I believe you have & nice quality English gentleman's pistol rather than a common Trade pistol.
Not to say that this pistol didn't personally belong to the wealthy English trader who traded with our frontiersmen ??

I thought ALL handguns must only be shot at a approved range.. interesting.
Nope…..just modern guns and reproductions are “restricted”
Antique status guns are not covered under current laws, same as flintlock longguns 😜
So of course this has driven the prices on antique pistols up here to ridiculous levels…..
