barrel coneing...?

anyone had their rifle barrel coned for easier roundball loading? was accuracy affected? thanks in advance.

I coned my GPR flintlock. I can thumb start PRB's and accuracy was not affected.

Even though some barrel maker do not warant their barrels when coned, I shot quite a few guns with coned barrels and they were exellent shooters!
I also took a rice barrel, shot it un -coned and then coned it and no difference in the group size.

 

My .45 bucks co. is coned and i wouldnt have it any other way. Loads fast and is accurate. Less gear to haul. :v

I've coned 4 of my rifles with a home made tool and have had had no accuracy difference at all. And it just makes reloading so much easier! Emery

All my muzzleloaders including my smoothie are coned. Loading is sooooo much easier.Last week at the range a friend was shooting his 32 cal and mentioned that he wanted it coned for easier loading but was wondering about accuracy. I've lost no accuracy from coning. Well, I coned his 32cal right there at the range, he shot 2 shots into the 10 x ring and the holes were touching. The rest of the shooters standing around were all impressed with the 32 accuracy after coning.We,ve had this discussion several times before and I think it's personal preference. Just my 2 cents worth.

Ya, coned my GPR. Love it. I plan on coning my .54 flinter as well.

For years my rifles were un-coned and had to use a ball starter. Decided to cone my Harpers Ferry and it actualy made it fun to shoot and IMHO had better groups. I have since coned all of my rifles and noticed no problems and much easier to load. Yes some out there say that it hurts the way the rifle barrel was made but I don't agree one bit.

i've coned all the rifles i've built, with no apparent loss of accuracy (Green Mountain, Long Hammock & Colerain barrels) ... all these rifles shoot better than i can.

since they're coned, they're easier to load and shoot, so i practice more, and enjoy it more.

i'd go with the cone every time!

I had L.C. Rice give my barrel a "medium radius" crown when he cut it, and it falls short of a cone but still allows thumb starting a patched ball.
