I am a die hard maxi shooter. and all have been lubed with Bore butter. My groups have been consistent and cleaning seems to go as normal. I've read a bit of concern about bore leading. How do you know if a bore is leaded? Also I go by the creed that there are no stupid questions only stupid answers. 🙃

If accuracy is unchanged, what are you worrying about?

Not concerned at the moment. Just a thought that if accuracy falls off at some point how I could recognize that leading could be the culprit.

I have shot hundreds of maxi s in my T/C Hawken 50 cal and do not have any leading . I have a bore scope to check and I know it is lead free and clean also no wear on the rifling

is accuracy good? are your cleaning patches pulling out tiny flakes of metal? is the bore badly pitted? if you are not having problems now then keep doing what you are doing. bore leading is only a problem to be concerned about if you are having that problem. lots of guns shoot lead bullets without leading problems. with lead fit is king.

You would get chunks of lead coming out on your patch during normal cleaning methods. If this happens, you know you have a problem that needs to be address. The chunks can be both large and small, but are obvious.
If you get see these chunks, you know there is quite a bit more embedded in the bore.

The bore scope is the end all tool to see. But from what I've seen in my airgun, you will start getting shots that are low and off center, but probably still group together. Cleaning patches with shiny flakes are a tell tale sign too. And you might be able to see the lead from the muzzle, but not always.

Powder coat will help prevent this if you are casting your own ammo, then grease to help keep the fouling soft.
