:idunno: Late last year I sent a barrel to a man near Gettysburg, PA for some work, I totally forgot his name and phone number. I need some work done on another barrel due to some incompatent handling at Chiappa, it was warranty work for an Armi-Sport rifle. I have the full story if I'm allowed to warn Forum members. I would appreciate the contact info for this craftsman, Thanks, Blackfingers

 The very man, many thanks! Last year he took an old .32cal Tennessee rifle barrel and re-bored it to .50cal smoothbore, he did a beautifull job and he would be the man to repair this tomato-stake I now have, thanks to Chiappa Firearms and their "professional" staff of gunsmiths. I don't know if this post will stay, but here goes. I bought a new, unfired Armi Sport Kentuckian rifle, fired it 20 times at my club and during cleaning, I noticed a slight inperfection in the bolster. I contacted Chiappa who is the US partner I think of Armi Sport. I recieved an RA number and sent it along to them. Several days later, after I called, I was told the bolster is safe, a new nipple and rammer is included, why, I don't know. I was also told at that time that the rifle was test fired, this is where it all goes wrong. I got the gun back and discovered a severely rusted barrel, inside and out at the muzzle, I nearly s*it! On the phone, some jerk named Chris told me he was there for the test firing and cleaning, and that it was done correctly, baloney, and a bald faced lie!! He was either fibbing or covering for someone else. I then returned the rifle and recieved a promise from this same man that prior to shipping back to me, he would personally unpack and check the work out. It was returned the other day, still wrapped in the green bath towel and taped just as I sent it. Work listed on their invoice stated the "gunsmith" touched-up the barrel, and also listed the rifle was returned to have the barrel replaced or repaired. Why the invoice when it's very clear NOTHING was done to my rifle on its second trip to Chiappa Firearms is a mystery. I have just this morning shipped the barrel to Mr. Hoyt for re-boring. That's my story and I'll back it up to whoever needs it done, I'm all finished with these "posers" who have no idea what customer service and honesty is.

That really sucks, they probably farm warrenty work out to the lowest local bidder. Anyone can claim to be a gunsmith. I would demand a full refund.

Hi, I didn't get the rifle from Chiappa,so there's no refund, but they do warranty work for Armi Sport. Really, how much trouble would it be to take ownership of your mistake and order me a new barrel? Just bad business, and I'm done with them. I really do hate liars, it's the lowest form of communication there is.
As I said earlier, the barrel is on its way to be repaired, on my dime, lesson learned.

Maybe the "gunsmith" was scamming the warranty company? Getting paid for warranty work that he claimed he did.

Either way, I know to stay away from Chiappa and Armi Sport. Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry to hear that it happened, but hope your man can get you fixed up. - john

I've sent two inquiries through their "contact us" link on their website and haven't received a response yet. My requests were sent 5 or 6 days ago. I just wanted to get some information about the rate of twist on their rifles and get some information about replacement locks or lock parts and so far haven't heard from them.

I purchased an older (1979) Armi Sport Kentuckian for $100 recently and I'm happy with the purchase so far but I need to do some work or replace the lock to get a good spark and I'm disappointed to have been ignored so far.

Try L&R Locks. Recently I sent an old flintlock to them to see if they had a replacement. Unfortunatly, they didn't. You could contact them and try the same thing with them. BTW, if you do, kindly let me know if you're successful. :hatsoff:
