i have a 54 cal smothbore havent shot round ball through it yet because when i load it it gets stuck 3/4 down the barrel
i had to give it a good shove to get it the rest of the way
down. is this ok to shoot? :thanks:

Long as you can get the ball down all the way on the charge, should be fine. I'd wonder about what's causing the tightness, though. Really clean that barrel with a wad of steel wool. My guess is, it's a slight rough spot caused by improper cleaning. Let us know what you find out.

I would suggest lapping the bore, get a lapping compound and smear it on some steel wool and your cleaning jag, do 50 to 100 strokes (down and up) then clean out the barrel and recheck for roughness...

Repeat if necessary...

The Getz barrel on my smoothbore is like that. It tightens up right at the wedding band, where the barrel changes from octagon to round.

I've been shooting it for 3 years now, no problems.

Had the same issue with a used fusil I got back in may but mine was real tite 6" down from muzzle used JB Bore Paste on my patched cleaning jag about 30 strokes made a big diff :results: :front:

I would get some 3M green abrasive pads, (not the cheapo kitchen type) a good stout and close fitting wiping stick, cut or grind some concentric grooves on one end, wrap a piece of pad around it and see if could smooth it up in tight area of bore.
