I'm interested in buying a Hawken kit from Track of the wolf. The three rifles to choose from basicaly have different size barrels with different twist. Im planning to building a .58 cal. The 1" octagon has a 1-70, The 1" 1/8 tapered to 1" has a 1-66 and the 1"1/8 straight has a 1-70 twist. Are these differences for round ball and conical? And is the barrel diameter a factor in choosing a rifle?

Those are all slow twists for round ball

Conical bullets and sabots need a twist of at least 1:48. If that is all the gun will be shooting, even faster twists like 1:28 or even 1:18 should be considered.
