Barrel weights

Was looking at a target rifle and the seller says it has a number four weight barrel (octagon). Is there some standard for muzzle loading barrels that the makers used? Just wondering what a four weight is?

i have a D weight barrel from rice....i never heard of number listing of barrels....who made the barrel :v ..............bob

"Who" is about as close as we may ever come to knowing. Supposed to be from the 30's - 40's.
