I can't say I have ever seen anything along the lines of the second one in the picture. It is an interesting style to say the least. It would seem like the extension off the pommel would make it difficult to use for any task other than stabbing something.

Plumebleu, we have some information about using that style of bayonets, but we have only that picture of it. :shocked2:

Never saw one like it, either. Appears to be a socket bayonet and not a plug.

Is that a 'ring bayonet?' I've only heard the name in histories, never have seen one. Supposed to be a trasition from plug bayonets to socket bayonets, but I always thought the 'rings' swiveled.

Yes, it`s 'ring bayonet'. Some army (French) try to use it between plug bayonet and socket bayonet.

Have never seen the "ring" type before but George C. Neumann's "Swords & Blades of the American Revolution" illustrates 11 different plug bayonets including one with a "flamboyant" blade that's engraved "GOD Bless King James The 2"...how cool is that? Hate to have some guy point that at me! :grin:
