The ingredients in BC Plum Brown on the label reads: Nitric acid, sodium nitrate and potassium chlorate. Hmmn, nitric acid, as in aqua fortis.

Took a tablespoon of Plum Brown, dissolved a bit of steel wool clippings in it to treat a piece of scrap maple. After applying heat, put some baking soda/water mix onto the wood, it foamed up pretty good when killing the treatment. I lightly sanded and rubbed in a little tung oil. Below is the result.

Here are a couple more Plum Brown treatments on scrap maple. Dissolved more steel in the Plum Brown this time and solution was left on wood to work a bit longer.

HOW MUCH OF B/C Plum Brown would you need to do a half stock?
thank you

I have not done a stock as of yet. The scrap piece in the pics was about 3"x12" and took about a tablespoon of solution. Milage may vary for others.
