Pretty neat Alden.....never heard of a "Bean of the month club".... I use to grow a lot of different beans....planted a dozen different kinds one year...
Nice movie clip too...

Look at it this way, you now have an excuse to buy every cheep (relatively) cut of meat at the butcher

Yea, I'll take 3 of the shanks, two smoked hocks, 1 1/2 pounds of neck bones, oh and do you have any mutton?

And BEAN-NO is on the next isle half way down on the right :nono: DON'T FORGET THE BEAN-NO!!!

:rotf: :rotf:

good thread, a riot in the makeing.
how many here have cooked yellow-eyes? add some other veggys, spinach, carrot, pepper and celery and neck bones or smoked turkey necks. that's may favorite but man what a 'gas attack'.

The secret to avoiding much flatulence re: beans I believe is...

...chewing very thoroughly.

The skins of beans, I understand, are often a little more difficult to digest than average and bits get delayed in the irregular surfaces of the intestines. There they stay and, when they do, are the source for producing extraordinary amounts of gas as they decay.

Beans, beans, good for the heart; the more you eat the more you... for cryin' out loud will ya look at the time!?

Hmmm :hmm: Looks pretty darned good to me. There is enough flatulance in that box to blow more than a couple of hats in the creek. I love beans. I may have to look into that bean club. Thanks for sharing.

Did a quick online check. Wow! $6 to $8 a pound for beans????? That's a bit rich for my pocket. Maybe I'll keep getting my beans at my local super market. :(

They charge $6 a pound for pinto beans... PINTO BEANS! :shocked2:

Around here they're about 75 cents a pound.

Sucker of the Month Club. :rotf:

Hey, they're really GOOD Pinto Beans! LOL Besides Jack, I have an income.

No, it ain't for everybody and it ain't cheap, these heirloom, I hope organic (whatever that means) for the price, legumes. So popular they had to close the membership books for a while.

May I remind everyone that "gas warfare" is prohibited by the Geneva Conventions?
(CHUCKLE.)

Given that most all of the heirloom varieties of beans/peas are LESS than 2 bucks a pound (Pintos & Blacks are

 Well I've tried  Couldn't get beans to grow last year, nor peas. This year in my early garden I got kale, spinach & mustered greens to grow but again the peas were a no go

I have 2 different kinds of beans to plant this week, well see if I have to join the bean of the month club

Got given a couple of been plants last year...they didn't realise they were dwarf, so the poles I put in were a waste of time!

Saved a few, this topic's reminded me that I need to see if I can sow them!

Don't give up Sean...sprout some seeds in the house to check their viability.
soaking overnight before you plant may also help.
Soil temp may have been to cold or it may have been to dry, beans and peas like water.

I have had pole beans self seed and begin growing if I didn't get them picked before a heavy rain.

grown my own beans for years. Generally one of the easiest to grow. When I was about 7 yrs old, my dad set me down with a bushel basket of pods picked from his kidney bean plants. I was not allowed to play until the whole bushel was hulled by hand and the beans separated into a bowl. I spent many an autumn evening shelling beans that way.

The local "ethnic" market sells about 20 different varieties of beans. I like the little red ones better than Navy beans or the others. I have found that planting the store bought beans depends a lot on how fresh the beans are.
