For your consideration. Built by N. A. KOON. 40 inch, 45 caliber tapered Getz barrel. Walnut stock. A few scuffs, it’s been hunted with a few times. Weight is approximately 6 1/2 pounds. Long tang down the wrist. Wire wrapped trigger guard. Vented drum screw. some nice little touches like that. That’s the first tapered barrel I’ve ever owned. Gives it a nice balance. If anybody knows anything about those tapered barrels that Getz made please comment. I’m curious. $1400

Getz is one of the top barrel makers, having the taper will make it a joy to pack in the field.
The long tang & trigger bar makes this slender-wristed rifle much tougher.
Good price & If I was younger & still able to shoot rifles I would snap it up :thumb:

Beautiful rifle!!! I'm new to this stuff. What's the purpose of the wire wrapped trigger guard?

I looked it up and I bought it from Track back in 08. This is what the had to say about it.

"Bean of Tennessee Longrifle
.45 caliber, 40" tapered barrel,
Siler mountain lock, walnut, iron trim,
by N.A. Koon

Trimmed in iron, stocked in black walnut, this is a full dressed Tennessee rifle with Bean style patchbox. Neatly fitted and finished this rifle has tight inletting and excellent shaping with a slender forearm. The top flat is marked by the builder N. A. Koon.

The .45 caliber cut rifled barrel measures 40" in length and is a light 7/8" octagon tapered to 3/4" at the muzzle. Rifled with seven lands and grooves with lands wider than grooves with a slow twist for patched round ball. We recommend our .440" pure lead round ball, patched with .017" Ox-Yoke ticking, lubricated with our Mink Oil patch grease, or other animal fat lubricant, if you require best accuracy.

Weighing in at only 6.6 pounds this rifle is a joy to handle. The rifle has a trigger reach of 13-3/4 inches and is well suited for today’s average size shooter."

As far as the wire wrap this is what Track of the Wolf wrote. " The grip rail of the triggerguard has been neatly wrapped with wire to provide a secure grip."

I figured it was for looks. Little things like that add a little something.

I agree. The wire wrap is way cool. I've seen leather wrap on the levers of unmentionable rifles and they too look really nice. Sometimes they even have beadwork.

I don’t want to direct attention from the sale, but I have found that tapered (as opposed to swamped) barrels were used on some southern rifles. Swamped and parallel-sided barrels, too, but tapered barrels were known in southern rifles. At least a couple of them have been described on the ALR forum. So, the tapered barrel is authentic.

Best regards,

Notchy Bob

That is a fine looking rifle. Where is it located.
