Bear grease/oil storage ?

I had a jar of bear grease in the fridge for a long time and finally heated it up and filtered it today.I mixed up some 2 to 1 bear to beeswax lube and now have some bear oil left over.The oil is in a canning jar and I was wondering where I should keep it now ? Do I need to keep it refrigerated or will it be ok on a shelf ?

I keep it at room temp. Some up to 4 years now and it's fine. If it's rendered right to begin with, it should keep for a long time. :thumbsup:

I keep mine in the freezer. Had It out today to grease up some ticking. Put it back in. Dilly

Well this is a start,keep it in the freezer or at room temp...Not sure if I rendered it properly,all I did was heat up the solid grease till it melted then poured it through a coffee filter.

I have about a pint left over that has been sitting on my gun cabinet since 2001. Just checked it for this post and it looks and smells like vegatable oil. Been at room temperature all this time. I think the trick is to get it really clean before you store it. Bill

I have some stuff that I rendered last year in different batches. The batches that were totally bear fat with no meat or blood have no smell at all. It sits in antique bottles on my mantle, where I occassionally dip out the oil that has separated from the grease. If it smelled the wife would let me know, I assure you!

When I got sloppy and failed to get all the blood/meat out of a second lot, it stank to high heaven within a couple of days. However, all was still not lost as once this smelly stuff was mixed in with beeswax to make patch grease, the smell pretty much went away.
