The old timers made scent containers out of sandplum branches with the bark on about an inch in diameter hollowed (read that drilled at about 3/4" hole) and fitted with a stopper. Typically, there would be a leather thong tied around the neck and would be worn around the neck for easy access. A long, thin stick would be dipped in the castor mix and placed in the bank above the set. Others may disagree, but that was the Manuel Lisa method.

I agree. I think a hollowed out branch with a plug might have been common as well as a small horn. Maybe a section of a large hollow bone- plugged at one end and a stopper in the other.

And.. I thought it would be nice to get some PC traps at a reasonable price, square jaws, etc. but never got any trap companies interested- not a large enough market.

I think it best to use soft green wood. I wondered how the mountain men did it- no large bore drills...well I used a knife- rotating it around and around and in soft green wood- I bored out a hole, then whittled down the outside.

There are some who make them pc style. I didn't save the links, sorry. But keep searching you will find. You will also stroke out when you see the prices. :shocked2: That is why I did not save the links.
