horn was a freebee from my butcher years ago, i boiled it and pulled core with a screw. then it sat around on my shelf for four years till i needed a horn that could carry alot of powder.....double navy arms 12 gauge made me finish it.
lathe was a rescue from my father inlaws barn, a craftsman from the 60's. usted but in good shape, only missing motor, live center and chuck. all in $120 had me in a workable machine.
The Forge was built with an old brake drum, a plate part from a broken hay bale chopper, and some 1 1/2 " scrap pipe. then i couple a hairdryer to it above the cleanout for a blower.
Works really well, and the charcoal is free and effortless out of my outdoor woodstove! catch it during a damper closed period, shovel into a barrel, put the lid on tight to cut off the air......viola, free charcoal!
thanks for looking! (first horn and first hawk/first time using a lathe/trying blacksmithing.......i was pretty happy)
