I saw somewhere a chart on how to read these and I can't put my finger on it now. I was able to date my Lyman with it. I also saw a chart on Belgium marks one time. I wanted to date some old shotguns as well.Can someone point me in the right direction?

Have you tried looking in the forum's links section?

I know there is a link with Belgium proof marks in there...

Yes I did check there. It is a start, but I recall one that was more detailed. It gave the marks that were used during a specific time period. Thanks for trying.

Well if you ever find it, please send it to me and I will add it to our links again for future reference...

Musketman: We used to have some information which gave the date equivalents for the letters and roman numberals marked in the rectangular box on Italian guns. It seems to be missing now.

Do you have any idea what happened to it?

As a general reference for others, it said roman numberal X = 1954. XI = 1955. The numberals continued up to XXVI which was for 1970.
They then used XX7, XX8, XX9 and XXX for 1971 thru 1974. They then went to a double letter method starting with:
AA=1975, AB='76, AC='77, AD='78, AE='79, AF='80, AH='81, AI='82, AL='83, AM='84, AN='85, AP='86, AS='87, AT='88, AU='89, AZ='90, BA='91, BB='92, BC='93, BD='94, BF='95, BH='96, BI='97, BL='98, BM='99, BN=2000, BP='01, BS='02, BT='03

I don't have any data about what they did after 2003 but if they followed suit BU would be 2004, BZ would be 2005 and CA would be 2006?

I know which one you speak of, we use to have it but the link went dead or the host deleted it...
