I found the one on the right somewhere, cannot for the life of me recall where. And the one in the left I made specifically to hold tobacco and put a loop on the front to hold a pipe. I punched two sets of holes and added a piece of leather thong and a horn button to the flap to secure it similar to the other.

Bottom line, a belt pouch is period correct for the 18th century and one can use it for what one wishes.

18th century Rifle Matches were often one shot matches, though they may have shot in more than one match in a day.

Modern ML matches often have at least two or three, if not five or more shots per match. Some matches include starting a fire w/flint and steel and if it is too hot for a waistcoat or jacket, a belt pouch can be the perfect place to carry those "fixins" or anything else one might wish.

For those who like "minimalist" or "day" pouches, a belt bag can be just the ticket for carrying extra things one needs.

That’s a gooder.

Here is my first attempt yesterday.
I’m gonna go 1” bigger with a small gusset on the next one.

I’m looking forward to not packing the shoulder pouch when I’m just shooting.

Tom: That bag came out nice. You may find that the size you have is about right. I went with a belt bag for a bit and liked it for squirrel hunts etc. that being said, I like my shoulder bags a bit more....

Also.... Take your time measuring for that gusset. They can be tough to line up sometimes.

I carry my round ball’s and patching in a belt bag.

My flint wallet with jags, turn screw, worm and such and short starter go in my shooting bag over the shoulder.

This works best for me during woods walks & shooting sessions , unless I’m shooting from the bench.

Then everything is still in its place, just the bags are on the bench instead of me..
