Here's a belt knife I made for myself this weekend. It seems like lately none of my projects ever go as planned. This started its life as a large Japanese style kitchen knife project, but in an attempt to film myself doing a little forging (and subsequently messing around with my stupid camera for 10 minutes) I accidentally melted the tang and lower half of the knife in the forge which I forgot was on full blast.

After much swearing (and a great video of me looking really sad!) I decided to salvage what was left into an 18th century style knife for myself. I have been giving away most of what I make lately and it occurred to me that I didn't have a period style knife for deer season yet. This one should fit the bill.

1084 high carbon steel, poured pewter bolsters, and iron pins. The sheath is a center seam coated with bees wax and sewn with hemp cord.

I'm happy with it, considering it was a last ditch effort.

Another nice knife! :hatsoff:

Have you ever considered naming your operation "Happy Accident Forge"?

Thanks! And yes, that might be an apt description. Maybe if I work on my afro I can be the Bob Ross of knife making...

Nice work. Both knife and sheath. Good choice of steel. Seam on the sheath appears neat and straight. Good job. You didn't really need a Japanese kitchen knife anyway, did you?

I didn't, but my wife was kind of wanting one for Mother's Day. Ooops!

And thanks, actually I used an old tutorial you did on some other site for making the sheath. After failing miserably at making center seam sheaths your method of starting with a side seam sheath and just flipping it around worked like a charm.

Nice knife -- I like it also - good style - good looks - :hatsoff:
