You wouldn't happen to to remember that quarter-killing load? I'm getting a strong desire to take this Jewel out and shoot it.

LOOONG time ago in an embarrassing era of immature doins BUT I am pretty kinda maybe sure it was 25 gr. And I had never heard of cutting patch, always used store bought round DRY patches and used Hoppes blkpwder solvent and patch lube.

Looking for something with about a 7" barrel all. Most recommendations are for guns with 9-10" barrels. That's a bit too long for a belt pistol IMHO. My horse pistol is that big and it's not very portable on the belt.

Some states have/had a 9" minimum barrel length on ml pistols carried while on a big game hunt. Check your state laws before making a decision.

With my job, I could find myself in a multitude of states. I feel as if I have made a grave error! In this case, forget what I said about the short barrel. I'd like a 9" or so barrel to make sure I'm in regs!!

As for the CVA Mountain Pistol, man those are lookers. Daddy like! All I'm seeing are the kits though. I checked on the ads and auction sites and nothing to be found for finished pistols. :shake:

That is a beautiful pistol! Did you make it from a kit?

Smokey, that would be a no. I had Matt build it and with a different - sorta earlier style - handle. It's a perfect match for my .50 rifle.

The CVA Mountain pistol is snazzy and lots were sold. A rarer CVA Pistol that is a little better is the Hawken Pistol. Not many sold. It has brass furniture to go with the Hawken rifle they sold. Easy to clean with a patent breech. The Hawken pistols come up on on-line auctions about once every four months. The CVA mountain pistols about once a month.

Hawken is the top pistol:
