Bench lighting LED?

As most of you know, they're phasing out incandescent light bulbsin the US. Flourescent ones give most of us if not all of us a headache after awhile.

Can you still get 150+ watt bulbs, flood lamp bulbs, or do I have to try out LED lights?

I'm trying these halogen replacements, I found them at a local lumber supply off the shelf.
I've always liked a clear 100W Incandescent, so far I'm impressed with the halogen. http://www.bulbs.com/espec.aspx?ID=24533&RefId=22

I just don't care for the color of the LED lights. I want bright! (old eyes)

I use an Ott light over my work bench.. My wife uses them for sewing and crochet (they were selling them in the arts and crafts store she worked at).. I have seen them now in the hardware stores too.. Great bulb to use, gives off a natural light.

I use the Daylight flourescents...I have two 4 foot doubles by each bench. The Daylight bulbs are very bright white light and I have no problems with them. Much, much different than the soft white lights.

Yup. Got mine at Lowes, but now I wouldn't light a shop any other way.

I use the architectural style lamps on my bench (cheap to buy, and they clamp, so they're easy to move) so the weight of the bulb is an issue for me. I will try one of the new LEDs, once the money, motivation and memory come into alignment while I'm at the local 'big box' hardware store. regrettably, all of the local hardware stores have twigged to the fact that the hippie-dippies which infest this area think that LEDs are greener-than-thou and will plonk down a ton of money for them, so prices are ridiculous!

the LEDs come in a variation of colors, but i'll get the daylight balanced ones (5500 Kelvin, if memory serves).

That is what I use.. I like to be able to back light something at times.. shows the dips and divets :haha: so I like a movable light source.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lithonia...MLRL-11-840-M4/203617240?N=5yc1vZc7nkZ1z115g2 I bought one of these to test out. I really like it. I think you would need two on on each side of your work area for shadows. The bulb is a plate of LEDs inside. Might give it a try. There is a 14" model also.

P.S. I would definitely look into LEDs Cree I think just came out with a vented model that seems to work good.

I have 2 similar adjustable lights, only mine are those with magnifier lens in them, one at each end of the rifle
when I build it.
Above that I have Two 4' florescent fixtures with with double 5700 lumen bulbs in them. They are pretty bright
& do well for me. Seems the older I get the more light I seem to need.

Roy, what is wrong with you? That shop is entirely too clean and neat. You could do surgery in your shop. Get back in there and scatter some tools around and throw some wood chips, shavings and saw dust around. Maybe toss in a couple of unfinished projects. Make that place look like a proper work shop. :haha: :haha:

Is Roy sick in hospital or something? perhaps someone in is family doesn't expect him to pull through and they went in and cleaned everything so that the real estate guys will be able to sell the place? and where's the cat? isn't there supposed to be a cat or a dog somewhere? and half of three projects, and bits of a Ford truck?

I'm confused (of course, that should come as no great surprise)

Roy, I don't know you, but I hate you already. Of course I don't,t, but I would love to have a work setup like that. We recently put in a new shed that is perfect, but my lovly wife of 46 years said no way, now I need to talk her into another shed.
