I am trying to get alock sparking properly all else has failed so I am attempting to fit a new frizzen. Last week went to friendship and picked one up that is almost perfect. The problem is when I ground the casting sprue off flush with the side of the frizzen and drilled the hole there is a gap between the frizzen and the barrel it is cocked to one side. My question is can I heat the arm between the bolt hole and the face and bend it or will it break being cast metal?? any help would be appreciated!!

There is a very good chance you will also distort the hole for the pivot bolt and make it irregular (done that). If you get it orange hot you can safely bend it w/o cracking but it will cool quickly so get an extra set of hands. Don't do too many heats or you will lose carbon.

To prevent these problems I solder the frizzen to the pan, then drill, then grind/file to fit, then unsolder it.

If it's a recently made casting it's very bendable. You can clamp the bit you don't want changed in a vise and go after the rest of it hammer and tong. Well, hammer and vise grip.

You can anneal it first if you want. Or get in touch with the manufacturer and get the straight skinny.

Thanks for your input the lock manufacturer is not in business any more so that is not an option. I think I will try to heat and bend it a little. I will hope for the best if it doesnt work it wont be the first time ive had to start over on a project . Thanks again
