thinking again, and yes i already know that can be dangerous, but i'm going to try it anyway. But i need some help and advice. I am thinking of getting either an India pattern 3rd model Brown Bess or a Royal Navy Sea Service Bess from Military Heritage Arms. Also considering the Bess Carbine. Anyone have one of their Bess's and if so, what do you think of it? Are they built well enough to handle some fairly stout hunting loads? Does the lock spark well? How is ignition speed? Which one would you choose for a hunting gun? Will an 11 ga wad work right in it for shot loads? What is a reasonable big game(ie ELK) hunting load in one? Have any of you done any pass shooting for birds with one? Any info on them would be appreciated. Thanks all. Take care, and watch yer backtrail.

TOW has all the wads, moulds, balls and shot you need. They are listed as to size and which bore they are for.
: They (Discriminating General) claim excellent sparkers and from the movies I've seen where their muskets are being used, they do seem to work well. The Cyanide method of hardening frizzens is the original method and is superior and longer lasting than case harening soft steel. Their frizzens are also tool steel to start with. The hardness should be all the way through, not just on the surface.

Had a chance to see one of their Long Land Besses a few weeks ago. Sparked very well, the owner claimed to not have had any misfires the whole weekend. I also saw one of the Sea Sevice muskets on the back of an Indian, but never got the chance to talk to him about it.
As for me, I WAS going to get the Loyalist Arms Long land, but due to my unit ALL having 2cd, or Short Models, and the excessive wait time for the LA gun :curse:, I instead changed my order to a pedersoli. ::
Loyalist Arms shipped it the same day I place the order, should have her by this monday.

Now that your buying, :applause: :applause: i guess a good pistol to go with them wouldn't be out of line either. :: And the matching bayonets too. :D :D

Already have a .54 cal rifled English style pistol - will get a .62 sea service pistol as well, to go with the sea Service musket.
