What do you guys consider to be the bast all lead 50 cal conical for deer size game. I am thinking of maybe using my fast twist file (1 in 48) rifle this year along with my RB rifle, maybe trade off from week to week. Thanks for the help.

I have shot LEE R.E.A.L. conicals with excellent results. I have also shot Hornady Great Plains and Thompson Center Maxi ball & hunter concials with good results.

REAL concials are strange. They work great in one rifle and then in the next you couldn't hit a barn with them. Those are a must try before being endorsed....I have a .54 caliber that shoots 300 grain REALs with such accuracy it shocks most people when they see the groups it will shoot with open sights. My other .54 caliber will not shoot a REAL conical to save its life, but will put round ball down range all day excellent. I have yet to try them in my new .54 caliber I just got.

I am currently playing with some 460 grain no excuse and some 533 grain trash can conicals. They look like a REAL. I have not been able to load them into my Traditions Hawkins, but I have not tried them in the Thompson Center yet.... They do shoot excellent out of a faster twist barrel though.

I've been playing with the R.E.A.L. in .50 cal (the larrger 320 gr) and I'm still working on a good load. They're not giving me the accuracy I get out of the 350 gr. Maxi-Hunters, but I'm still in the trial stage. I have heard that lead solid base bullets sometimes work best with an over powder 1/8" thick card (a B.P. cartridge trick), so I've ordered a bunch of those for further testing. The Maxi-Hunters are a good choice for deer, but I much prefer being able to cast my own. I hope to be able to report the R.E.A.L. is just as good "in the flesh" about two months from now.

I'm surprised how hard they are to load. I had heard they are a loose fit??? Not in my gun!

O.K. the BEST all lead conical is the one that shoots the most accurately from your rifle while still giving good velocity and down range performance.
I'm guessing you are hunting whitetail?????
if so, the 1:48 seems to shoot best with realtively short for caliber bullets in the 245 to 300 grain weight range. This is NOT a hard rule, but a generalization.
While not ALL lead, the PowerBelt/BlackBelt lead bullets with the plastic base work well.
I've heard many mixed reports on the REAL.
You have to shoot some and see. If it were me I'd buy a 15 or 20 pack of Power/BlackBelt all lead in 245 or 295 as a start, or get some REAL 300 frain.
I like a bullet that fits snug as I don't want it comming off the powder charge. You have to be carefull about that.
Be sure the thing is snug enough that it won't come off the charge in a hunting situation as a bullet 6" ahead of the charge when the "big light" comes on could ruin your whole day. :curse:

TX50, This is , by far, the best .50 I've ever seen. We've shot it in Whites, Knights, Green Mt. and a few other barrels and all shot it well but they were all fast twist
(like 1 in 28) Never tried it in a 1/48. I just drew a sketch and had a mold made and luckily it came out great.
The big flat nose causes it to really expand. We've shot 4"
groups at 200 yds. A lot of deer and elk have been killed with them but no one has ever recovered a bullet. The ones pictured here were recovered from soft dirt 30 yds behind
the 200 yd. targets. Targets were one layer of cardboard.
I had this made because I tried about all the commercial bullets and found none of them to be accurate. It weights
490 grs.
