My first muzzle loader was a T C Hawken I built from a kit . It was a nice accurate rifle and got me interested in the historical part of black powder shooting . I discovered the rifle wasn't a copy of an origional Hawken , and the coil spring was not historically correct . I bought a Uberti Hawken and sold the TC . No regrets .
The original investaarms GPR had coil springs I beleive? The new GPR by Pedesoli I think went back to a flat spring?

I replaced the lock on my GPR (2010 ish vintage) with an L&R lock. If I remember right it was close to drop in. If I wanted to do what you wanted that is where I would start.
