It's way too easy to bash Hollywood for its routinely terrible portrayals of all types of gun play. How about some examples of the best? I would submit that the cattle drive in the Centennial mini series was among the best for an accurate showing of percussion revolvers.

It's not Hollywood, but the BBC Sharpe series seemed to do a pretty good job. I never noticed anything out of place.

Perhaps "The Black Robe", too. Plenty of matchlock scenes.

"Black Robe" was excellent! I also thought "The Alamo" with Billy Bob Thornton, was done really well. Loved the scene where he played his fiddle up on the wall!

Don't take my post on the other thread wrong, Hollywood has done much better than in days past......The Patriot is amoing my favorite movies....gear, uniforms, overall 'feel' of the movie is right....most of the gaffs are the fault of the one who edited the movie, not the actors/director......the 'directors cut' with the deleted scens back in is a good watch....there was a lot that hit the floor that should have been in the movie all along.

I would have liked the movie better if Billy wasn't so scared of his flintlock. Probably the best Crockett was Arther Hunnicut (spelling?) in the Last Command. You can see where John Wayne got some ideas for his Davy.

yup, LOVED Blackrobe, and April Morning with Tommy Lee Jones was another good'n, especially seeings how it came out in 1988. It's about "The shot that was heard around the world" Or more to the point, the things that lead up to that fateful shot being fired.

Yes the above mentioned ones are in my library, so I will add Master and Commander :)

There are lots of very good details in the back ground in the Sharpe series

It is a good thing that now days there is better imput into movies by proper experts etc. , it makes for better entertainment and it does educate to a small degree at least it will raise awareness in the ignorant ones . :)

Here's 1 vote for Daniel Day Lewis' "Last of the Mohicans".
With the exception of production over sizing the weapons most of the props. used were throughly researched. We did the horse trappings such as schrabques, valises and saddle cloths. It took us about 2 months to find the right fabrics and colors.

As you can tell this was one of our biggest brags. Thanks for listening(like you had a choice)

The Kentuckian [1955]

Rachel and the stranger [1948]

....original arms, well presented.

For the CW I vote for Red Badge of Courage - The B&W version.

The guns were wrong, the uniforms were wrong, the tactics were wrong.

But for the most accurate portraial of soldiers it cant be beat. Audi Murphy and Bill Maldin Knew those men and played them perfectly.

Foster From Flint

Audie Murphy and Bill Mauldin didn't just know that type of men, they were that type of men.............watch yer top knot.............
