I have an Idea what I want in a bag .I also know at this time I do not plan to make one or a strap.soo I would like to know were and or who is the best to take about getting a bag for say around 50 to 60 dollars as that is about all I can cut loose on one at this time. I would like it to have at lest one main pocket and one or two small ones on the inside back of it. A short starter loop on one side and or strap then a knife sheath on the back or strap. Bag needs to hang on the left hip so hit me with ideas or info as it is needed. I know later when I build my 32 cal long rifle I will also need a bag then but hope to try and make one or more by then. I also need to make or by two other simple bags. One for the wife and one for the stepson. There’s would be more in line with the Mountain man type but for me an eastern hunter one and or mountain man one but eastern first. There shooting CVA hawks and I have an Mt rifle and southern cap lock rifle.

Sir log on to e-bay and look under the following topics - "black powder","mountain man","muzzleloader" & "longhunter". You can normaly find bags of varied designs and prices there. Good luck, Strawstalker, NMT

DCF,
Just wondering how many you got for $50/$60??
Or for that matter twice that much?
snake-eyes :hmm:

I have got some real nice bags at the flea markets. Got two real nice ones, factory made and the most I paid was 25.00 for one. Have bought some good horns too. We have a big one 32 miles from here that is 75 acres, was there fri. Have made some of my bags, I like bags and have one for each cal. 32-54. Got one on the Internet. If you could get a leather welders sleeve you can make one quick and easy. Turn inside out, cut to length, sew, this the bottom, turn back, put two rings or sew straps on.Trim the flap and you have a medium size bag. I make small bags out of the big welders gloves. Also made gun cases, bags out of the leather aprons. Welder for 27yrs in factory. These were ones that were worn out for factory use. Dilly

Huntman,

I custom ordered a bag from a gentleman named Chuck Rush who runs a small company called spirit bear trading company http://www.spiritbeartradingco.com/9.html. I found his website after searching for a few months for an affordable bag.

He’ll make anything you want exactly how you want it for an affordable price. The stuff you see on the site is kind of an outline, and you can email him request something specific.

I have been asked at times "how much for your cavas pouch and woven straps?".
I do not put a price on them for just this reason.

I have done some trades but thats neither here nor there.

You will find what you are looking for on the online auction sites, in the price range you have limited yourself to.

But firstly, you should check out the classifieds on this forum site and check out those top end bags. Thereis some talent lurking on these pages!

Thanks every one. Been checking E bay sight and also a lot of others. I may have to break down and give it a go my self as I have an idea what I want and well nothing is hitting me so far. I like the cotton straps but also the leather ones. I do like a long beaver tail flap. But every thing I like is over a $100.00. O well that’s also how come I built my rifle and plan the next one as I am to cheep right now to pay what there worth done . I know I can not do as well of a job as most but that’s how the learning curve go’s. Thanks to for the web sights and info as I am looking into them right now. the reason I have to keep cost down is I live on a fixed income from SSI.( government) and I am feeding with tools two other shooters that I just got into the game about 9 months ago and now there wanting there own things as sharing with me is not always easy or available. Plus I am stingy when there not take care of as I would and well new shooters some times are more into shooting then taking care of. Again thanks every one I knew I could trust ya all for good info even if it is not what I wanted to hear but Honesty is what I prefer

Marty,

I have some deer leather I generally don't use. If you want I can use one of my patterns and cut out pieces to make a couple of bags and send to you. You get yourself some needles and thread and put them together if you want. You'll have to come up with your own straps.

Let me know.

Okay I decided to jump into some thing I may not be cut out for but I am going to try and make one for my self as I just do not seam to find what I want and just like I started in black powder what the heck. I do have all of you to ask many many things of if I get stuck along the way. I ordered some elk skin and even if I change my mind or it looks to bad to use that okay as the wife is also wanting to do some crafts or try relating to her heritage being she is part Sioux

I would suggest Jack Hubbard or Joe Mills. A google search should help you find them.

Check out TANDY LEATHER. They used to sell a bag in kit form. It might not be the most "correct" kind of bag, but it might suit your needs for the time being. My brother has one and has been using it for years. It has held up quite well. Worth a look. :hmm:

I saw there not much deferent then the old suede hippie thing I have been using. I was using a one edge striate razor for a patch knife and reaching into the dang bag I have cut my self two times and so no more. So one need to be better organized and two need to look what I am doing

Let that be a lesson to you... NEVER trust old hippies. They'll mess you up every chance they get. :rotf:

Pardon me for saying this, but it seems that you are very particular for the amount of money you want to spend and the suggestions and help from all of those who are trying to help your situation.

Many folks are on a fixed or limited income, me included, but if I really want something, I save my coins until I can buy it...I know, I am pretty particular when it comes to quality..especially with my M/L interests, but I like the best I can get or compromise in area's I can't make due at the time!

Yes I am picky  I also do the same save as much as I can but feeding 7 people it is not easy on the little we on fixed incomes (ssdi) get :cursing: . The people here have helped me in great ways even if it may not sound like it. It is because of them that I am willing to give it a try to get what I want. I have been out of the sport for so long that many things have been forgotten and are slowly being brought back. I also for some reason have a mind set that making things your self is better even if they do not look it . I know that one of the bags I have been dreaming about is at the leathermans and after looking there more times than I care to say there is a few I would try to up my amount to pay for also, like the hunter bag! I really do appreciate all the info ideas and help many have given me .I also want to thank all that have offered to make or have one that they would sale to me and I will say if mine turns out like I hope it dose not I may be contacting ya . It is people like that that will help make this sport stay alive and grow some day I hope to pass on my growing knowledge also.
