a little .31 Crockett will do just fine., but you will still have to pick your shots ( head shots best) cuz they can tear up alot of meat even though its a .31

For me, it'd be a tossup between the Crockett and the T/C Patriot. I prefer a smaller caliber for small game hunting, which is why the inexpensive Crockett is in the running. I have a Patriot and it's a fine shooting gun capable of an impressive level of accuracy. That might make me swing more towards it. My Patriot is .45, but they were also made in .36 which would be just about perfect for small game.

I've been lucky enough to take some squack (4) and rabbit (1) with my '58 Rem .44 but would realy like to have one of the capper .36's.

The best handgun for small game is definitely a quality single shot .32 to .38 caliber pistol. If it has to be a revolver, I've had very good luck with my Colt Navys. Nice balance and accuracy and the .36 caliber is more effective than the little pocket .31s or even the pocket .36s. The Colts have a much nicer feel than the Remingtons for most people and shoot just as well--there is a good reason why Bill Hickok preferred his Navy Colts over all the other options open to him.

That's up to you. The sights on both are rudimentary(sp?) at best. My preferred side arm is the 1860 army, so I kinda like the looks of the 61, but the 51 is a classic and may fit your hand better. Handle both and see how they feel.

I'd go with the '51 too. I have a '61 and it's O.K., but I like the look and feel of the '51 a lot better.

I have a .36 caliber muzzleloader pistol from Palmetto, that has a fancy target grip and resembles a Tingle pistol. It is very accurate. Never saw another like it. Years back CVA sold a muzzleloader pistol called the Prospector. I tried to order one from several different suppliers and no one could get them. I have never actually seen them outside the catelogue pictures, but once read on-line a report from a fellow that had one and claimed it shot very well.

no remmy navy?

I had a '58 Remington in .36 way back when, and it was a fine rabbit getter -very accurate and easy to hit with. Mine was blued and I can't remember who made it, but want to say it was an Armi San Marco (ASM) product.

I traded the '58 to partially finance my Pedersoli 12 bore double, and did my serious post deer season rabbit hunting with that, as it ran concurrent with the quail season. I carried my '61 Navy for potting bunnies for camp meat while deer hunting, mostly 'cause it was my first BP revolver.

I regretted parting with the '58 and I'd like to have another .36 '58 for small game hunting, but would like one with the non-trad target sights. Blued or stainless doesn't matter to me.

Does any vendor carry such a thing anymore?
