I like to make my flints from flakes rather than blades because they are much flatter with no bevel to deal with . All production flints are made from blades struck off a core which requires a ridge down the back (bevel). I still will at times shape them up with a green emery wheel if I have a stubborn piece that does not want to release flakes to narrow the edge bevel but usually rely on pressure flaking it with a pointed copper wire tool.I'm usually bevel down
