I have a .67 cal Tower pistol that I found in some back wooods gunshop about 13 years ago. It's a Japanese made one. I had to have the frizzen hardened but it has never failed me since. I too like to load it with shot and shoot the chipmunks that bother me while squirrel hunting. :)

Hi Paul,

I have to humbly disagree with you about our (Middlesex) guns. They are not expensive wall hangers. ALL of our guns are shooters, and the locks are guaranteed for life. Many people use them for hunting and competition shooting. So, I'm going to say, "Don't knock it 'til you try it." There are many, many, many gun manufacturers in India. Not all Indian guns are the same.

Jack,

I have a pair of Dixie 67's. I use 50 grains of powder and they kick like a horse! Have you shot round ball from yours? How much powder?

Maybe he just wants a big old pistol. The Towers like Dixie sold needed the frizzen hardened but I don't think they were out and out dangerous, if that's where you're going.RedFeather
I still shoot a DIXIE "Tower" flinter .67 caliber I built from their kit back in the late 70's. I must have gotten lucky because it's always sparked well withit's original frizzen!! I cut the barrel down to 8" and installed a large wood rammer with a shotgun tip for ramming wads. And I added a belt hook to carry it with. Mine looks about the same as the British Short Sea Service pistol that MVTC sells. Okay, with a short barrel .67 smoothbore it's hard to hit anything beyond 7 yards wiht a roundball....but that's pistol range as far as I'm concerned. I could put a large hole in someone's chest if need be at 5-10 yards with it.
I built it primarily to shoot 1 1/8 ounce of #5 shot. And at 7 yards it'll blast a lot of holes through both sides of an old GEOX powder can...or a snake.
If you want a 25 yard target pistol for hammering oversize balls down the bore to make nice groups on paper, there are plenty out there. But for pure blast'em-up fun, something like the doglock or sea service pistols are the ticket....whoo-hoo!!

I have the Middlesex "Ketland Trade pistol" and I love it., the lock seems better built than my military Heritage sea service.,tho I enjoy both guns., I am sold on the MTVC ! :hatsoff:

Yep, the days of the un-sparking Flint Indian made pistols seems to be in the past if you shop with the 3 vendors listed in those prior posts.

I've seen flintlocks from all three of the vendors listed and they all spark better than my 3 higher priced custom flinters... :youcrazy:

I do like MVTC to deal with, I just got a kick a** doglock blunderbuss from them and the deal went very smoothly...

Take a look at all three sites and choose a pistol, I don't think you will go wrong.

Cheers,

DT

Davy at least you could of used a bigger fish. Na Geo is running a thing about Black Beard starting the 9th I think it is, all those smokeing ropes in his hair and beard and a brace of 4 to 6 big handguns..ah the good old days. :hatsoff:

Hi Wendy. My 1757 Dragoon and 1640's Doglock pistols both work great. Will be ordering a couple longarms in the next couple months.

Hi Jack,

The reason that we do not post calibers on the website is that they vary from batch to batch depending on a lot of factors including the availability of metal stock, cutter wear, etc. When we get a batch of guns in, we measure each one so we can recommend the ball size for it. Typically the Scottish pistols will be .52 caliber and the larger pistols are around .62. The new French pistol is .69.

Please contact me any time that you would like to know exactly what calibers we have on hand and what models.

Thanks for asking me this question, because it reminded me to ask Pete to put the answer in the FAQ part of the website!

Thanks Harbormaster, David, and Ricky for the kind words. You guys don't realize how happy it makes me when I look through the posts and see those types of comments about our guns. It makes the long hours of work worthwhile.

Thanks,

MVTCWendy

I am looking at getting the French Pistol ... is the vent hole already drilled? Emailed the question about 2 months ago and no answer yet.

All of MVTC firearms are sold vented and ready to shoot. They are sold as working firearms. each is checked out and reboxed with a check list to show you that the firearm in question will spark and function correctly out of the box.

MVTC and Loyist Arms sends out working firearms.
MH sends out unvented firearms.

All three companies use differant companies to build their firearms.

MVTC and LA stocks parts for their guns.

MH does not (but claims they will order them for you... from India... :shake: that will be a 6 month wait at best, I bet)

There ya go.

Cheers,

DT

Well, I see that DT answered your question better than I ever could (thanks David!!!)! I wanted to apologize that no one answered your email. I think that you probably wrote to our East Coast Distributor Loren at Mountain Muzzleloaders. He was having a very bad time with his email server, so he changed servers. I bet that your email got caught in that mess. Sorry!
