I love that round rifling in the new .62! It shoots dead on at 25 and 50 yds. with 80 grs. Goex FF. But at 100 yrds., 80 grs. almost drops off the paper. So for 100 yrd. shooting I upped the load to 100 grs. That brought the point of impact up 4" but the POI is still 8" low from bullseye where it used to shoot as a .54.

The recoil with 80 grs. is nothing, but man, at 100 grs. the recoil begins to hurt. I will try 120 grs. next and see if it will raise the POI another 4".

That ole punkin ball really drops (like lead) at 100 yds.!

If I may offer a suggestion. Why not just raise your POI at 50 yards, say 2" - 2 1/2" high of point of aim. That should raise your POI at 100 yards and saves you from burning so much powder. Not to mention the beating you'll take with 120 grains. If you don't have adjustable sights you may have to file down the front blade a bit but that's a simple process. I sight my hunting rifles in at 2 1/2" above POA at 50. For me that is dead on @ 13, 1" high @ 25, dead on again @ 75 and 3-6" low @ 100 depending on the load and caliber. The heavier RB's tend drop more than the smaller cal such as the .54 ...just a thought

I have to agree with your recommendation. Its nothing to use a 6 o'clock hold on a 6 inch bullseye target at 50 yds, with the gun zeroed to hit 2-2 1/2" high at that distance. And holding a bit high for those few 100 yd. shots you might have to take is usually no problem, either, using fixed sights. Certainly MORE RECOIL is going to inhibit your ability to place the ball accurately on game, and then you have created a real problem beyond your control. :hmm:

Good idea. My only hesitation about filing the front sight down is that both sights are fixed sights. But, 8" low at 100 yds. is too much so I'll have to do something. I also agree about shooting 120 grs. == too much recoil! So I'll take the rifle out to shoot on blocks for a couple of more times using 100 grs., then start filing on the front sight once the new barrel settles in.

That rounded rifling throws wonderfully tight groups! I love it!

On taking a file to the front sight. Use the smallest file you can find. Additionally, I've learned to use painter's masking tape {the blue type as it won't damage your barrel's finish} both fore and aft of the sight to prevent nicking the browning on the barrel. If you file too much off you could always take the file to the rear sight. Ultimately keep in mind a new front sight is less than $10 but what is the cost of a mised trophy or worse yet a poorly hit and lost animal?
