hi yall from oklahoma. i'm new to the sight(excellent sight i would like to add)and new to guns and blackpowder in general .Been workin part time for a gunsmith for bout 5 years now. one of the perks, besides the obvious working and learning about my new found passion.is i get to work on personal projects i.e. my underhammer. and its finally ready to play. we had a customer ask if we had a stock for the mbs underhammer action or if we could make one .well my bossman knows i'm nuts about muzzleloaders. so i chopped out a pattern. this is where i'm at on the fisrt one(mine mine mine minemine)and halfway through the second(bossman's). http://s854.photobucket.com/albums/ab106/carpetslayer46/underhammer2010/ heres some pics of mine if you'd like to see. the rear sights are my version of a long bar peep sight,a work in progress

Underhammer stocks are generally available from Stock suppliers, Like Dunlap, and Pecatonica River. You can get standard stocks for known actions, such as the Hopkins and Allen design, or they will custom make the stock for your particular action for an additional charge. You can also change the design- just work up a wooden model of the design you want, and they will cut a good stock out of Walnut, maple, or any other wood you choose using the model in their pattern lathes.

We are blessed with multiple sources for such stock work. Are you offering this to members as a business, or just showing what you made???

showing. my first personal build. the only one who will make money off this rifle will be the person who sells it when i die :v

You did a beautiful job on your underhammer. Thanks for sharing.

The most time is spent on the first one. The next one takes a 1/3 less time; the third takes about 1/2 the time as the first; After that, the time drops steadily until you spend 1/4 or less the time spent to build the first one. That is the value of Knowledge you gain in How to make one, and what NOT TO DO. Its the " What Nots" that are the costly parts of gun building, and the most valuable knowledge to obtain.

Now is not the time to stop building guns.

Billinghurst made lots of target guns- MLers for the main part, but a few cartridge guns later. He used false muzzles on some of them.

Here's an example.

This would make a cool advanced project. It's a Billinghurst over/under. http://img706.imageshack.us/i/wm810910.jpg/

yes, the 40cal green mtn barrell does better than expected. still need to calibrate the sights and work some diff loads. the 32 inch by 1 1/8 barrel gives it alot of wght easy on the shoulder. she took away a 100yrd target 1st pl. medalion fromm a sixty lb.bench gun two weekends ago .he kept the other two

thank you,the gun shoots nice , but as far as my shooting abillities go it was dumb luck i'm sure. :idunno:
