Having never seen one up close and personal, Would this one be close to full grown?

Maybe half to 2/3 full grown. It was about 25 pounds, wiki has it they go 35 to 50 pounds full grown, sounds about right.

It did already have a serious set of canines....

Cool hunt. My uncle, who was from Corpus, had a lease just outside of Cotula for a long time. Lots of Javelina. We'd hunt them after the morning deer hunts.
We were at the Aransas Wildlife Refuge and I read a deal about Javelinas, it said they were actually part of the Bison family. Something to do with hooves, but I wouldn't take that to the bank.
I didn't know they were once here in the Fort Hood area. They are long gone now though, I've been here since 94 and never saw one out in the field, plenty of feral hogs though.
My dad would slow smoke the hams with mesquite and they weren't bad, still a bit gamey but edible.
They are a strange little animal.

Good shooting, nice sized javelina. They are just starting to come back into to my area, you can hunt them west and south of here.
A coworker's mom cooks them in the oven i think, all i know is it taste like its roasted, is damm tender and have a slight gamey flavor that isnt offputting. The "green things" she cooks in a large platter of napalitos, which i never thought id like but was pretty dang good.

I want a lefty flint squirrel rifle but the more i think about it the more a smoothie looks like fun.
