Like Bob said, this confirms my high opinion of Ballistol. There's a reason it's stayed around for over 100 years...it works! I know some folks say a steel barrel cannot be "seasoned", but my friends' muzzleloders all load more easily since switching over to Ballistol for cleaning and lubing. (This may not be "seasoning", but whatever it is, they put less time and effort into cleaning, experience less fouling, and load easier.) I use an 8:1 mix of water and Ballistol (it emulsifies in water), a nylon bore brush, and a toothbrush to clean my BP guns, flush them with hot tap water, and spritz them down with straight Ballistol. Never a problem with rust, even when I lived two blocks from the Gulf in Florida. I also found it worked great to kill mites in my neighbor's dog's ears (three different prescription drugs had failed to do it), little bugs on my garden plants (Sevin dust didn't work), and keeps my leather sofa clean and conditioned. :hmm: ::
