i have a 54 percussion and a 36 flinter- use 3f geox in both. tried curtis & harvey but found geox better. got some elefunk but haven't tried it yet.
20-30 grains in the 36: 60to100 (hunting load- checked with the builder) in the 54. i find it burns cleaner than 2f.
however in my 54 trade gun i use 2f. i found the slower burn raised the shot pattern to where it was acceptable. still working on rnd balls on that one.
i always use 4f as a pan primer but was interested to see the post re moisture attraction with 4f. (it's usually snowing when i'm out.) i've used 3f in a pinch and never really noticed any difference - but that could be cuz i'm a lousy shot :>)
doesn't matter if i hit anything anyway cuz i look SO cool in the mountains in my capote and all my gear!... just like i knew what i was doing ! ;>)

BrushBuster,

My understanding is that a license separate from a FFL is required to sell real black powder. Bass Pro doesn't have the license and doesn't carry BP. We have one here in Nashville and they only carry substitutes.

I bought a pound of Goex FFg at Bass Pro here in north Texas. They keep it in back. Since it is classed as an explosive instead of a propellant it has to be stored in a special area and can't be put on a shelf out front.
